The University of Texas at Austin is registered as a generator of hazardous chemical waste with both the Texas Natural Resources Conservation Commission (TNRCC) and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). When departments retire computer equipment it is transferred to Surplus Property. As required of state agencies by SB1105, computers and monitors are transferred from Surplus Property to the Texas Department of Criminal Justice for recycling.
