Vehicle and Cart Safety

Many UT employees must drive university-owned vehicles or carts as part of their normal job duties. It is important that staff know the safe routes to take and where to park on campus, policies governing the use of university vehicles, how to report training compliance, how to operate university vehicles safely, and what to do in an accident. This page features all of the information you need in one place.

Insurance Information

All UT vehicles are required to have a printed copy of the current fiscal year's "Vehicle Packet" in the vehicle. To print one, access it in the link below.

Accidents

If you or one of your staff members are in an accident and there was damage to the vehicle, a person, or property, fill out the Acord form below and send to your supervior.

Inform them that a university vehicle needs to be towed to the university automotive shop

Instructions for Training:

Get required training to operate any university vehicle, as well as training specific to the cart or vehicle that you will drive.

Cart Training

The Cart Training is now completed by taking an online module in UTLearn. The module has a quiz you must pass to get credit. The module takes about 20 minutes to complete.

  1. Click FS Cart Driver Training.
  2. Log in to UTLearn with your UT EID and password.
  3. Click the Request button to register. UTLearn will then take you to your Transcript.
  4. Find the FS Cart Driver Training in your Transcript, and click the Launch button next to it.
  5. At the end of the training and completion of quiz, select DONE. Your completion will be saved into UTLearn.
  6. If you encounter any errors, please contact UTLearn.
  7. Send the certificate of completion to your supervisor.

Driver Training

Employees in EHS who need Driver Training should contact Melissa Moore at melissa.moore@austin.utexas.edu. If you are not an EHS employee please contact your department representative.

12-15 Passenger Van Driver Training

Additional training online and hands-on training are required to operate 12-15 passenger vans owned and operated by UT.

UTDRIVERS (The University of Texas Driver Record Information and VERification System) helps university departments verify departmental drivers' eligibility and ensures compliance with UT System Policy UTS157: Automobile Insurance Coverage for Officers and Employees and General Requirements for the Use of Vehicles.
